Google Maps Getting A Facelift Will Make It Easier To Visualize A Location
According to Gadgets.ndtv Google maps are rolling out visual improvements which it’s objectives are to better reflect actual environments in the maps. The company is introducing a color- mapping algorithm technique for Maps, through which users will be able to easily understand the exact looks of areas and also visualize it.
This update will let users know at a glance, how green and lush a location is, just by looking at its vegetation, and even be able to see things like snowcaps on mountain tops.
In a blog post, Google said “ it would use computer vision to identify natural features from it’ satellite imagery, looking specifically at arid, icy, forested, and mountainous regions. Then, it will analyze these features and assign them a range of colors on the HSV color model. Google also added that a densely covered forest can be shown as dark green, while an area of patchy shrubs would show as a lighter shade of green.”
Google continued “ exploring a location gives you a look at its natural features, which means you can easily differentiate between tan, arid beaches, deserts from blue lakes, rivers, oceans, and ravines. So the new improvement will help users who have plans on visiting the location, or even for mere visual exploration.
